This paper comes from the research project named "the Research of Large Scale CIS Image Scanning-Input Technology" with the purpose of developing the key technologies of the large scale scanner design using CIS. The main content of the project includes the analysis of the characteristics of CIS sensors, the research of large scale image scanning technology using Z-shape combination structure of CIS sensors, and the research of the high-speed scanning technology. It is considered by the appraisal committee that the technologies developed from the project are leading the field internationally. The paper mainly deals with the design and implementation of the control system for the large scale CIS scanner with a focus on the driven software. Firstly, an introduction to the theory and characteristics of CIS and the Z-shape combination structure for sensors is put forward and then the whole design scheme of the control system for the scanner is given. Secondly, the implementation of each module of the software is discussed in detail. Main content of this part includes the inplementation of the massive image data high-speed transferring from scanner to host by use of a large capacity FIFO and a 32bit high-speed PCI card, how to control the step motor for precise location of the CIS image sensors, the techniques for utilizing the LM9830 to control scanning actions based on the CIS's characteristics, the real time image data collection, the reconstruction of the image data sampled by the Z-shape combined CIS sensors, and the parallel and pipeline techniques used in the whole process helping to save time. Lastly, the paper explains the theory and implementation of an image calibration algorithm based on LM9830. The whole software is writen in assembly languages of TMS320C31 and AT89C4051, implementing the kernel functions of the control system for the large scale CIS scanner.
