As the development of electronics technology, several new requirements are emerging for electronics design, for example, increasing product functions and shortening design cycles. Former computer aided design techniques have been developed mainly for product manufacture and planning, and it is still a challenging task to develop a practical system for product concept design which is one of the most important factors determining the product cost. Such a practical system could improve the result product quality and market competence effectively. Therefore, based on intelligent simulation of thinking in Al, knowledge representation and product creative design method, this paper presents a - digital product concept design framework for electronic product development. In Chapter 1, the digital techniques for product development are discussed and summarized. Then the development of CAD and intelligent CAD are introduced. By analyzing the characteristics of electronic product design, the disadvantages of present EDA systems are indicated. And the object of our current research is proposed here. In Chapter 2, the design process model for electronic product is discussed. A laying based design model is recommended, in which the concept design process is divided into two phases: function scheme design and component scheme design. The construction of this model is analyzed, and a describing framework based on this model is given. In Chapter 3, based on an experiential function division model, we present a function scheme design framework. And a function decomposing reasoning based on name matching and maximum restrain satisfied is 2iven. In Chapter 4, based on case-based-reasoning model, a component scheme design framework is provided, and the methods for case representation and retrieval are discussed in detail. To support this framework, several knowledge databases for product design are developed. The detailed implement of these databases is described in this chapter. In Chapter 5. to validate the feasibility of our framework. a prototype system for electronic product design is developed and discussed. We illustrate the system work flow by investigating a practical example of product design process. Finally. chapter 6 summarizes the main contributes of our work, and those work under improvement and the future work are discussed also.
