Workstations are inter-connected with network and are coordinated with message passing to form a Cluster of Workstation (COW). PVM(Parallel Virtual Machine) is one of the most widely used message passing systems. Two PVM program examples are used in this thesis to illustrate PVM programming technique and programming paradigms in message passing multi- computer system. Two program skeletons are listed, which after filling up some codes, can be used to construct two categories of parallel program. With the programming environment of PADE in parallel virtual machine, users can finish all the PVM application development tasks on a single development workstation. Having fixed one of the PADE system deficiencies, this thesis demonstrates the development of PVM programs with PADE. It is not only difficult to code a parallel program, but also difficult to debug it. In this thesis, the difficulties in developing parallel debuggers and the methods of using some debuggers are summarized. The build-in debugging features of PVM and XPVM systems are explored. A parallel debugger 揟otalView?is used to demonstrate the debugging of two parallel programs.
