Help-seeking is the attitude and behavior of seeking help from others when students encounter problems in the learning process which can't be solved by them independently. Self-esteem is the active evaluation to their abilities and positive emotional experience made by individuals with the premise of a strong heart in life, especially in the face of setbacks. There is a close relationship between self-esteem and help-seeking, but the results of the previous studies are not consistent with each other. In the present study, the fresh students of a certain technical school of Linfen city in Shanxi province were selected as the study subjects in order to test the relationship between self-esteem and help-seeking. According to the level of students'self-esteem, the researcher made a systematic self-esteem training to those students with rather low-level self-esteem, exploring the influence of self-esteem training on their self-esteem level and help-seeking, and looking for the effective way to improve the help-seeking patterns of students in the technical school. The results show that:1. The overall self-esteem level of technical school students is rather low, and their help-seeking patterns are mainly avoidance of he1p-seeking.2. There is a positive correlation between self-esteem and help-seeking. Those students with rather high-level self-esteem prefer the instrumental help-seeking to their teachers and other students, while the students with low-level self-esteem tend to choose the executive help-seeking and avoidance of he1p-seeking. The help-seeking patterns of low-level self-esteem students are unreasonable.3. After the self-esteem training, the self-esteem level of the experiemental group is improved significantly.4. After the self-esteem training, the help-seeking patterns of the experiemental group are improved significantly. Compared with the control group, their instrumental help-seeking has a significant improvement.
