Thomas Jefferson(1743-1826), The famous American Enlightenment thinker, educator and the bourgeois democratic revolutionary,who is one of the founding fathers of the drafter of "the Declaration of Independence,"the third, and fourth served on the president of U.S.He is not only an innovator in American higher education, but also the founder of the basic education, and a blazers in public education.In 1779, Jefferson put forward a "Bill for the More General Diffusion of Knowledge" and advocated the establishment of a free public school system, and called for universal education to prevent the government's authoritarian rule.The Act does not get through, because it touches the interests of U.S.upper class in upper society people's interests, but its value is enormous, which indicates the rapid development of public education in the United States in 19th century. Jefferson as a thinker and politician in the period of bourgeois booming,which embodies politician's concern to the Republic of civic education, his educational thinking are consistent with his political views, they are indivisible, which made him the spokesman for public education in his era.Jefferson's concept of basic education in public school movement completely and comprehensively outlined a blueprint for the United States, and whose ideas has laid a solid ideological foundation for its vigorous booming of American public education, which promotes the publication, universalness, and secularization.At the same time, his idea of basic education has provided a blueprint for the development and modernization realization of education in the world of public education, Although Jefferson's ideas of basic education is still exist many limitations, but history ultimately proved that his educational thought has great significance to the development of education in the world nowadays.
