In 2007, directly under the impact of neo-liberalism, the global subprime crisis erupted caused by financial crisis. The crisis directed the attention of the world to the original cause -- Neo-liberalism, which aroused the widespread concern in the circles of domestic and international business and politics, philosophy, economics, ideological and political education, and sociology, etc, and since then it has become the focus for research and criticism.Neo-liberalism is an economic theory originated in the 1920s and 1930s, which, transforming from theory to practice and advanced by Great Britain and the USA, was widespread over the world, and gradually developed into a specific bourgeois ideology, reflecting and expressing the interests and aspirations of the bourgeoisie, giving rise to economic globalization and privatization sweeping the globe in early 1990s. Along with this historical trend, Neo-liberalism was stirring in the land of China as fast as the whirlwind, having influence and impact on our economy, politics, culture. The rapid development of economic globalization, modern media and a variety of academic exchanges entitled the college students to the access to and understanding of neo-liberalism, and a large number of Western and Chinese political and economic issues were brought to us through Internet, radio, television, newspapers, monographs, papers as well as lectures and reports. On one hand, the expansion of Western neo-liberal ideas broadened the horizon of college students; on the other hand, the values and way of life of the bourgeoisie were introduced to them as a universal value. The college students, as the pioneer of the time with active ideas, some scientific and cultural knowledge, are good at absorbing all kinds of new ideas and concepts. They are concerned about the livelihood of the people with a strong desire of social participation. Meanwhile, as they were born and were growing in a peaceful world, thus being short of social experience and not being firm in theoretical knowledge of Marxism and socialism with Chinese characteristics, they couldn't analyzed the issues comprehensively and would be easily misled and even assimilated by false appearance.By reviewing the formation and historical development of Neo-liberalism, thoroughly analyzed in this thesis are the nature and characteristics of Neo-liberalism. The Neo-liberalism is the product of capitalist political, economic and social development. It's the bourgeois ideology to serve the development from monopoly capitalism to international monopoly capitalism. Through the result of the global practice of Neo-liberalism, it can be obviously seen that the Neo-liberalism represents the interests of the rich and capital, and, with concealment and deception, it is the essential way for the international group of monopoly capital to maintain the capitalist production mode, possess resources, accumulate wealth and control the global capital market, and establish new global order to gain a monopoly profits. The practice of world economic development warns us that the Neo-liberalism hasn't brought prosperity to capitalist countries, nor has it brought social and economic development to developing countries, thus we must recognize the nature of Neo-liberalism, avoiding falling into its trap.Neo-liberal ideology, as the Western mainstream, is gracefully disguised and highly induced in the name of pro-democracy, freedom and justice, which had an incalculable negative impact on the college students. Hence, some students being in lack of patriotic emotions, ideal and good faith advocated private ownership and anarchism with such negative thoughts as the pragmatism and extreme individualism developing, and fairness and justice off railing, which brought great challenges to the ideological and political education in universities and therefore needed our urgent vigilance and proper guidance.Confronted with the adverse impact of the Neo-liberalism on Chinese contemporary college students, we must take active measures to seriously criticize Neo-liberalism, proposing that we should clearly realize the long-term criticism of Neo-liberalism, and emphasizing that, in the new historical era, we should guide the college students with socialist Core Value System in the ideological and political education.Through the education and guidance, students must be confirmed in the belief in Marxism and the socialism ideal and faith with Chinese characteristics to strengthens their criticism of Neo-liberalism. Adhering to the correct orientation of ideological and political education, we should optimize the social environment, promote the construction of the ideological and political theory course, improve teachers' consciousness'of service and their quality in political and ideological education to effectively widen its carrier, strengthen the construction of campus culture and the network, and further develop social practical activities, making students well understand and grasp political theory and knowledge, making students proficient in identifying Neo-liberalism, and making students truly realize that China can only be developed only by the socialism with Chinese characteristics, so as to strengthen their consciousness of abiding by the socialist core value system.
