Mathematics is a basic subject, which has an important role in the education system of all countries. With the concept that "Mathematics equals opportunity" is widely accepted, mathematics education is not only related to the national comprehensive competitiveness of science and technology but also as a issue of educational equity that is related to personal development and prospects. In the United States, the reform and development of mathematics education was in order to cultivate scientific talent. But since the 1980s, the equity of mathematics education was given more attention. It is of theoretical and practical significance to study the status, causes and countermeasures of the problem of mathematics education equity in America.The main components of the thesis are as below:In Chapterâ… , theories about mathematics education are explored in the context of education equity. The author explains the meaning of educational equity and mathematics education equity, and analyzes the significance of mathematics education equity to social and individual development.In Chapterâ…¡, the Symptoms of the problems of mathematics education in the U.S. primary and secondary educations are analyzed. There exists serious imbalance in mathematics education in America. There are clear gap in mathematics achievement between students of different ethnics, genders, regions and backgrounds, and between the students from urban and rural regions.In Chapterâ…¢, the Causes of the problems of mathematics education in the U.S. primary and secondary educations are analyzed. The factors that lead to the mathematics achievement gap between different student groups are complex. In general, the causes can be divided into educational resources, family background and social class, ideology and so on.In Chapter IV, the countermeasures of the problems of mathematics education in the U.S. primary and secondary educations are analyzed.The U.S. government has taken many measures to reduce school students mathematics achievement gap, such as changing the concept of mathematics education reform and development, strengthening the mathematics education research, providing more resources, and improving the teachers, teaching methods and teaching content.Although these measures have achieved positive results, but the U.S. the problems of mathematics education equity can not be solved completely in short time.
