In response to the warning from Nature and as an inherent quest for better life, people are giving more attention to ecological problems than they ever did in any past period in human history. For this cause, building and improving ecological civilization is becoming an important subject of our time. In its political report at the 17th party congress, the CPC for the first time proposes to build and improve ecological civilization. This significant proposal further enhances the idea of scientific and harmonious development. It has a long-term and deep influence on China's development; it bespeaks the Chinese people's sincere commitment to the solving of the ever worsening environmental problem of the world. Without the support of education, the proposal of ecological civilization will prove fruitless. The spread and promotion of the idea of ecological civilization among our young, especially high school students, is an integral part of our effort to build ecological civilization. Due to its rudimentary function in shaping our students' ideas and concepts and its specific educational tasks, the teaching of political and moral science at high school is indispensable to the spread and promotion of the idea of ecological civilization among our young. This essay, based on individual teaching practice, includes five parts on the spread of the idea of ecological civilization through the teaching of political and moral science at high school.Part One : An Overview of Ecological Civilization EducationPart One expounds on the connotations and characteristics of ecological civilization and ecological civilization education; presents the general picture of ecological civilization education at home and abroad; and gives theoretical support to enhancing ecological civilization education.Part Two: High School Political and Moral Science for Enhanced Ecological Civilization EducationPart Two proposes: enhanced ecological civilization education is an objective requirement for the implementation of the theory of scientific development and the building of a harmonious society; it is the pressing need for promoting awareness of ecological civilization among high school students; it is an important part of the reform of the teaching of high school political and moral science; and it fits in line with the main tide of educational reforms around the world.Part Three: Problems in Ecological Civilization Education and Their CausesPart Three analyses problems in ecological civilization education in five aspects and gives their respective causes.Part Four: Practical Research in Ecological Civilization EducationPart Four, as the key part of the essay, explores the methods of ecological civilization education through high school political and moral science teaching from six aspects, i.e., the recognition of the role of ecological civilization education, the proposal of three-dimensional goals, the selection of teaching materials, the exploration of teaching methods, the transformation of assessment system, and the development of educational resources .Part Five: Better Faculty and Resources for Stronger Awareness of Ecological Civilization among High School Political TeachersPart Five proposes suggestions on improving awareness of ecological civilization among high school political teachers from various aspects, e.g., renewal of educational concepts, learning of ecological knowledge, and improvement of educating abilities.
