Since 1950s, forerunners of the foreign language learning area have begun to study the learners'errors from comparative analysis, error analysis and intedanguage theory. The study of learners'error and error correction has been getting much attention by researchers, but the argument among researchers is so serious that it doesn't form a final conclusion. In recent years, most of the researchers and language practitioners are growing consensus on the role and significance of the error correction in the process of second language acquisition and the errors are accumulated by systematic study. Many researchers, such as Corder, Chomsky, Chadron, Long, and Liu Runhong etc., have contributed much to this field. They bring forward the models and measures for the approaches to error correction. On the basis of the model proposed by Chaudron, study the approaches to error correction in classroom teaching at junior high school. The thesis is composed of five parts. Chapter one describes the theoretical background of the survey. Chapter two is the Literature Review part, including the definition of"error", the development of the error correction theories and the study of the approaches to error correction at home and abroad. Chapter three is the survey part. The survey is conducted in 300 students and 40 teachers from one junior high school in Wenzhou. The results show that students and teachers do hold different attitudes towards the approaches to the error correction. Most students and teachers consider that leaner errors should be corrected, but there are significantly different opinions regarding when and how to correct learner errors. In Chapter four, some teaching suggestions are provided. Moreover, teachers should upgrade their theoretical knowledge and communicate with other teachers; Due to a complex process of error correction, teachers should take students'cognitive, affective reality and students'preferences of error correction into consideration in the process of correcting students'errors. The last part is Conclusion. It makes a general summary of the survey.
