As the fast development of the scale of the higher education, quality assurance in higher education is facing serious challenges. To probe into the system and mechanism of quality assurance in higher education is an urgent problem to every country. This paper based on the Sino-American comparative study of assurance system of higher education aims to improve and complete the quality assurance of higher education system of China.The first part is the introduction of higher education. This part analyzes the necessity of quality assurance of higher education, introduces the research achievements and shortages of quality assurance of higher education at home and abroad. At the same time, this part also introduces the method and defines the main concept of the paper.The second part reviews the history of assurance of higher education of Sino-American. From this part, we can see that the history of assurance of higher education of America is longer than that of China. Besides, we can see that the accreditation of America is imprinted with a distinct non-governmental character while Chinese higher education evaluation is carried out by government.The third part is the comparative study of the Sino-American assurance of higher education from five aspects:Main institution, method and content, sources of funds of institution, assessment procedures and steps as well as supervision of the result of the accreditation and evaluation.The fourth part analyzes the reason of the form of two different kind of quality assurance of higher education from history, culture and politics of two countries.The last part is the conclusion of the paper. This study points that we should improve and complete China's higher education quality assurance as follows:1. Marketization of the evaluation of higher education;2. Transformation of government's function;3. Participation of non-governmental organization;4. Construction of market-oriented mode of higher education quality assurance5. Supervision of government, company and other unit of society.
