The income gap and dualistic contradictions between urban and rural areas are still prevalent in current China. "Three Rural Issues" involving "agriculture, rural areas and peasants " is a strategic problem which is restricting the development of rural areas and the entire China. As an important aspect of rural studies, village studies will make great contribution to resolving "Three Rural Issues".This paper is a village study that takes the Taitou village in Shandong Province for a case and focus the theme of social change in rural areas. With the data and material collected by means of literature study and field survey, this paper demonstrated the course of the social change in the village using the concept of Desakota proposed by the Canadian scholar T. G. McGee. The change in Taitou village is a course that is from a traditional village to a Desakota. As a traditional village, Taitou is rural areas from the administration and takes the traditional agriculture as the dominant economy; the population in the village maintains a relatively good stability and homogeneity. As a community of social life, the village of Taitou is a Familiar Society in the perspective of interpersonal relationships. The village maintained a strong community-based memory, that is, the tradition in the past influence the village deeply. As a Desakota, traditional agriculture which was the dominant economy has been gone to end, while the tertiary industry becomes its leading industry. The population in the village was also say goodbye to the homogeneity and stability before, in fact, heterogeneity and mobility are the significant characteristics. In the aspect of interpersonal relationships, the characteristics of Semi-Familiar Society become increasingly clear and led to the birth of "two world" with the increase of migration. Official organization in the village has been changed from the Villagers Committee to the Neighborhood Committees which has double identity with the completion of "Village Committees to Neighborhood Committees". Specific changes has taken place in the life style, modernity of the villagers is growing. Interaction between the urban and rural areas is increasing. Therefore, the change in the village is a process that urban factors and rural factors are continuously interactive, and it is also the process of integration between urban and rural areas.Like rural area or urban area but it is not. In fact, it is a Desakota. This is the true portrayal of Taitou Village. In this area, scenery of urban and rural areas is compatible. There was no noise and high-density flow of population and buildings like city and the villagers have little "dirt" flavor. The difference of the economy and social life comparing with city is decreasing. Life style and the thought of the residents is becoming the same with the citizen. It is not a modern city or a traditional village with the function of the two. The social change in Taitou village is a process of integration between urban and rural areas, and it is also a process of reduction of dualistic contradictions between urban and rural areas. On this basis, this paper points out the importance and the mechanisms of integration between urban and rural areas, and analyze the problems of Taitou village. Finally, proper measures centering the integration between urban and rural areas are proposed in order to promote coordinated development and achieve the goal of integration between urban and rural areas.
