This study examined the development of school readiness of low-birth-weight children and compared the level of school readiness of low-birth-weight children with their peers of normal birth weight children. The purpose was to study whether there were deficiencies in low-birth-weight (LBW) children's school readiness and which areas these deficiencies existed in.The subjects of this research were selected from two elementary schools and two kindergartens in Changchun. 13 LBW children as experimental group and 155 typically developmental children as control group were tested by School Readiness Test Battery-Comprehensive Version (SRTB-CV), in order to examine if there were significant differences between two groups .The results showed that :1. LBW group got significantly lower scores than control group on the total scores of SRTB-CV.2. The development of school readiness of nearly 70% of the LBW children were below the average level of their peers.3. LBW children had deficiencies in school readiness, especially in domains of"learning approach"and"social and emotional development".4. Nearly 70% of low birth weight children in domains of"learning approach"got significantly lower scores than the average level of their peers.5. There were 76.9% of low birth weight children in domains of"social and emotional development"got significantly lower scores than the average level of their peers.
