The main purpose of this research is to develop a tool for the measurement of self-presentation in physical activity in the background of Chinese culture.Totally 937(477 males,460 females) high school students were tested during the research.Having developed from an original 129-item scale,and been validated for two times',the 34-item final scale was named Self-Presentation in Physical Activity(SPPA).The scale presented good internal consistency,test-retest reliability, discriminant validity and construct validity during the validation.Further results of the application of the Scale showed that:1,Significant main effects of gender(male,female) and grades(grade one,grade two,grade three) were observed in IC,while significant main effect of gender was found in IM,and no significant interaction effects of gender*grade were observed in both of the two subscales,through the method of ANOVA.And man students' scores are higher than woman students' in "self-presentation","impression motivation" and "impression construction";grade one have higher score in "impression construction" than grade three.This implicated that man students have more strong trend with self-presentation than woman students in physical activity,and grade one have more strong trend with IC than woman students in physical activity.The explain of this may be correlate with students' growth and grade three have more school work.2,Only very weakly correlation between self-presentation and social physical anxiety was also observed which implies SPPA' s good discriminant validity.And it implicates that self-presentation is only one of the impact factors on social physical anxiety.The results showed that the Self-Presentation in Physical Activity Scale can be used to measure senior high school students' self-present tendency in future research.Conclusion of the study suggests that physical education teachers should enhance girl students' recognize of the effection that physical activity on one's image,and make them like the physical activity;and treat boy students' misconduct(particular grade one students' misconduct) correctly to protect their self-esteem and interest.
