Large population, vast area, relatively large size of the national economy, coupled with its excellent geo-strategic position and rich oil and gas resources, are necessary conditions for Iran becoming major countries in the Middle East. However, the current research on Iran is mostly on its political, economic, cultural, and historical aspects, the Iranian nuclear issue is a hot current research, while the study of Iran's population is relatively small. Based on this background, this paper focuses on its population geography with the hope of expanding the field of the study of Iran to a certain extent and improving the awareness of Iran.In the course of the study, this paper analysed the number, natural change, composition, distribution and migration of Iranian population in accordance with the basic structure of the population geography before reached the following major conclusions:First, although the annual population growth of Iran has declined greatly in recent years, and birth rate, death rate and natural growth rate has emerged a significant downward trend, but its population continues to increase. The current type of Iran's population belongs to adult reproduction.Second, the population of Iran presents an uneven distribution. If the north of Khorasan province and the village of Morales tappeh Khuzestan province Gan Hu is the front line for the village community, the Iranian population is densely populated northwest while sparsly populated southeast. Currently, 50 percent of Iran's population is concentrated in the"cross" zone with Khuzestan province, Khorasan Province, for the horizontal axis , and with Tehran Province, Fars Province, Mazandaran Province, Qom province for the longitudinal axis .Third, judging from the population composition, the majority of the Iranian population is adult; The male population outnumbers female population; Urban population outnumbers rural population; More than half of the people are Persians and the vast majority are Shiite Muslims.Fourth,Iran has a high proportion of urban population which concentrated in several large cities. That makes its populaition distribution extremely unbalanced.Fifth, the present major factor affecting the Iranian population is an economic one. In the course of study the paper reflects two characteristics:First, compared with the previous study of literature and information data on Iran's population, this paper has collected and used relatively new data and material. In this paper, most of the population data which are the latsest ones, are from Iran's official web site through searching in English.Second, in the course of the study, the paper draw a large number of the population maps, such as the maps of population distribution, birth rate, death rate, natural growth rate, distribution, ethnic distribution, population density and migration plan. These could show the results of research directly and effectively. The paper is divided into eight major parts:The first part is the Introduction, including the basis and the significance of the selected topic, literature review, research methods, the main content, focus, and difficulit points of the study. The second part is the analysis of the environment of Iranian population geography. This part elaborates the enviroment of Iran's population geography in regard to geographical location, topography, climate, hydrology, economic level, transport, administrative boundaries and historial changes. The third part of analyzed the historical change, recent change and its regional differences of Iranian populationThe fourth Part analyzed the natural changes of Iranian population from the perspectives of Iran's birth rate, morality rate, natural growth rate, changes in population reproduction and regional differences. The fifth Part is the analysis of the composition of Iranian population in terms of age, sex, urbanity and rurality, nationality and religion. The sixth Part is the analysis of the festures of Iranian uneven population distribution in view of population density and urban and rural population. The seventh Part analyzes the situation of the mobility of the Iranian population. The eighth Part puts forward some thinks on Iran's population sustainable development.
