| There is no doubt that English is very necessary as a way of important communication for humans.English reading skill is one of the language skills that SMS must master.Improvement of English reading level is affected by many external factors,including language knowledge, reading materials and reading techniques .In the meantime, various internal affective factors also influence it.Meanwhile, affective factors not only influence the improvement of languge skills including reading skill but also the development of the students in all their life as a human being.Thus ,one of five targets of the new Curriculum Criteria of English teaching and learning for Senior High School is to cultivate students' affection.Whereas,in the current reading teaching,teachers put emphasis on the teaching of words and grammar in reading and reading skills. They ignore the function of affective factors in the improvement of reading ability. A great number of SMS are negative in reading . It stops the development of reading ability. In addition ,the current researches are limited to the application of affection in English teaching ,which are too abstract to solve the affective problems that appear in SMS reading.Therefore it is necessary for teachers in the middle school to come up with some affective measures. For the purpose of the development of reading ability and the improvement of students'affection, the author makes a survey of affective states in reading among 109 SMS of Xian Feng Middle School using a questionnaire and interviews some of them to make the result more complete and some measures are suggested to deal with reading teaching involving affective factors, based on the researches at home and abroad .The author first respectively extracts 3 students from two classes which the author teaches myself, namely from 109 students in all to make a reseach to guarantee that more questionnaires are returned and the reply quality. Then the official questionnaire survey is carried out.According to the statistics , the author carries on face-to-face talks for 30 minutes on September 10 and 14, choosing 5 from each of two classes at random to get some reasons for the affective probles in reading.According to the results from questionnaire survey and the face-to-face talk ,it may be seen that SMS are generally passive in reading. In reading class,the probles of SMS in anxiety and inhibition are quite serious;They lack confidence and interest in English, English study and English reading ; Their reading motivations are not intrinsic but mainly instrumental or extrinsic; they have the awareness of cooperation study and the desire in the reading study, but teachers seldom cultivate the spirit of the cooperation; They lack the positive emotion towards their English teachers; they hope to know about English culture; their willpower is slightly weak in the reading.Based on the face-to-face talks with students,the reasons for the affective problems of SMS are as follows: The students worry about negative appraisal from other people;they are concerned about the injury of their self-respect; they has not grasped the appropriate ways to study English words and grammar; their foundation in English is weak;they are deficient in willpower exercising;teachers are unable to arouse SMS interests in study and unable to change teaching methods flexibly; they lack enough appeal in personality ; their knowledge and skills in English are insufficient;they can't effeciently organize the classroonm teaching; they don't completely dedicate themselves to teaching students.The author proposes the corresponding measures to deal with these affective probles in reading:raising and maintaining affection towards teachers ; cultivating and maintaining affection towards English, English culture and English study ; cultivating affection towards English reading ; using means of affective teaching in reading classroom; using means of affective teaching considering SMS'psychological features.Finally,it is hoped that the thesis may be helpful for the related researchers. |
