According to the current trends of foreign language teaching in the world and our realities of English teaching in middle schools,considering the new Standard for English Curriculum promulgated by Ministry of Education,we have proposed a research project called "Task-based Teaching Design in Junior English".Task-based Language Teaching takes the specific task as power or motivation for the study,to complete tasks as learning processes,presenting the achivements of the tasks (rather than on test scores)to reflect teaching results.The students will be able to learn independently with specific motivation,do things initiatively by using the language which has been learned,they can use the known language naturally in the process of doing things and develop the language skills in the course of using the known language (Interpretation of Standard for English Curriculum,2002:105).It helps English teachers carry out the advanced teaching concepts of new Standard for English Curriculum,helps to overcome many drawbacks of traditional teaching methods,such as teacher-centred mode in teaching concepts,focus only on the teaching of grammar knowledge but ignoring building students' capacity in teaching objectives,inflexible teaching methods, ignoring the psychological development of students and their self-experience of learning, etc..In the period of one-term teaching experiment,combining the theory and the practice,we have constructed Task-based English Teaching models in middle schools based on the educational system of teaching methods.Task-based English teaching model refers to a model in which on the purpose of improving students' comprehensive language skills especially communicative abilities,the teachers design all kinds of tasks according to the specific communicative aims and language items,and let the students learn the knowledge of English and practise the language skills while doing the tasks. Based on the result of experiment,we have drawn the following conclusions:Students have made great progresses in listening,speaking,reading and writing,they have become more interested in learning English.At the same time the teachers have changed their teaching ideas and teaching ways.Meanwhile there are some problems to be solved and points to be improved while we use Task-based Language Teaching in Junior English,such as the difference between the results of long-term experiment and short-term experiment,the problem on design and arrangement of tasks,effective oral tests,the scarcity of teaching resources and training of teachers' quality.
