In the development of early childhood education,people had paid a great deal of effort in the past in research and exploration,aiming to provide good education for the children.After World Warâ…¡,Reggio Emilia had made remarkable achievements by a new method of early childhood education.This new method is called Reggio Emilia Approach or Reggio Approach.In this dissertation,Author analyses and summaries development process and elements of Reggio Approach,then compares Reggio Approach to Montessori method and Dewey childhood education.On the basis of analysis,author tries to find the characteristics and values of Reggio Approach.Besides the introduction and the summary,This dissertation includes five parts.Part one summaries the development process of Reggio Approach.This chapter reveals the three development stages:infancy,formation,development and dissemination. Infancy(from the end of World War II to the 1950s):During this time,parents,teachers and community began building new kindergartens for children.Formation(from the1960s to the early 1970s):Due to the growth in economics,there is an increasing demand in society for early childhood education Reggio areas implemented public kindergarten.Reggio approach was then continuously improved and eventually formed.Development and dissemination(from the1970s to the1990s):Reggio Approach made outstanding achievements and developed more mature and then spreaded to foreign countries actively.Part two discusses about the theoretical sources and educational ideas of Reggio Approach.Reggio The idealism of Reggio Approach derives from three main sources: progressive education in America and Europe,constructivism psychology of Piaget and Vygotsky and the tradition of early education in Italy and the idea of democracy.Part three describes the basic elements of Reggio Approach.Author focuses on organizational management,curriculum and teaching methods,environmental facilities, and other aspects.Part four analyses and summeries the characteristics of Reggio Approach. Through comparing Reggio Approach to the early childhood education methods of Montessori and Dewey,author tries to find characteristics of Reggio Approach.Part five discusses the evaluation of Reggio Approach.
