Homeschooling in America had come out in the colonial period, and the modern homeschooling rose in the middle of 20th century. After several decades of development, homeschooling has won the recognition from American government and the public, and has obtained the legal status. At present it expands by the strong tendency in American, and has become a kind of form of education that can't be ignored. As a free choice of education movement, homeschooling has already spread to other countries and brought to educators' attention. In view of the educational significance of homeschooling, the thesis reviews the history of development of homeschooling in America, and analyzes its main features, present condition, development trend and the problems in the hope of using experience for reference to Chinese homeschooling and family education.The thesis consists of 4 parts except preface.The preface expounds and differentiates the concept of homeschooling, family education and schooling, and deals with the significance of the sdudy.Part one starts the history of homeschooling development in America. It can be traced back to the 17th century, when many families bore the educational responsibilities of children. To the 1870s, with the development of American capitalist economy and the baptism of Common School Movement, homeschooling had declined. From the late 1950s to the late 1970s, it's a rising and disputing period of the modern American homeschooling. From 1980s to current time, it has been approved and supported by its good educational results, and then developed quickly.Part two introduces the present condition of American homeschooling, from aspects of choose reasons, family features, education methods, government manage, public support, effect and controversy.Part three analyses character and development trend of American homeschooling.In the last part, it analyses the enlightenment of American homeschooling to Chinese education development.
