Development Of Humanities And Social Sciences In The Universities Of Science And Technology

In recent years,Humanities and Social Sciences(H&SS)have made a great achievement in the universities of science and technology.However,the promotion of H&SS has not been fully played its due role in the development of the universities of science and technology.In order to construct a comprehensive university with high quality,the universities of science and technology should reform the abuses of traditional higher education and attach more importance to the development of H&SS.This thesis intends to explore the development of H&SS in the universities of science and technology within four chapters.Chapter one starts with different aspects(significance,connotation and ideas)of the H&SS development and the existing problems as well as current inadequacy in this field.Then it clarifies the foundation of this research as well as definitions of related categories with the methods of interview,literature and comparative research.Chapter two summarizes the model and features of the H&SS development form the historical and current perspectives.It points out a series of prominent problems in the developing process and explains that the basic problem in the construction is to realize why we should develop the H&SS in the universities of science and technology.Chapter three demonstrates four aspects of the educational function of the H&SS development(i.e.the function of cultivation,culture,subjects complementary and ideology).Furthermore,it explores the H&SS development of some prestigious universities of science and technology(e.g.MIT)in the world and summarizes their successful experience of the formation of development conception,the establishment of developing aims and the main measures to strengthen the development.Chapter four emphasizes that the conception should be changed to realize further development of the H&SS with overall thinking.In order to stimulate the development,we should attach more importance to the construction of campus culture,the creation of developing space as well as the improvement of related rules. In addition,we should strengthen our support form the policy and increase the capital investment to reform the cultivating model for art majors.At the same time,we should promote and deepen the integration among different disciplines to create a new way for the H&SS development.The universities of science and technology in the new era should establish the strategic goal to construct the first-class liberal arts and adopt trans-conventional strategies to stimulate the development as well as strengthen the construction of fundamental subjects,which will give the liberal arts access to science and techonology universities and promote the integration of art and science.
