A Study Of Memory Impact Of Music On Moderate Mental Retardation

In recent years, more and more people are paying close attention to the mental and physical development of mental retarded children, which has been researched in many related fields. But there are much difficulties to teach this type of children all the time.Previous studies have found that music can help remembering things, but the motivated effects depend on the material of music. In other hand, many researchers have studied the memory under different ways of music presentation by means of experimental or case methods. They obtained much research findings, but we can see little papers about comparing different ways of music presentation and findings on mental retarded children.The author reviewed both domestic and overseas researches about memory impact of music, and discussed it through experimental method from the view of theme of music and ways of music presentation. Here are the results:1. Music can promote the memory of moderate mental retarded children.2. Different themes of music would differently effect the memory of moderate mental retarded children. The music that is relevant with the learning material can increase memory marks better and develop memory abilities, and the motivated effect would be more lasting.3. Among the three different ways of music presentation, instrument-playing is the best one for the memory of moderate mental retarded children. No matter in learning new things or revising old things, instrument-playing is always the best way of music presentation to promote moderate mental retarded children's memory.The results above tell us that music, including the themes of music and the ways of music presentation, has some effects on the memory of moderate mental retarded children. Later in this paper, these results will be further discussed.
