Status Quo & Construction Of The English Lecture Preparation Groups At A High School

A lecture preparation group (LPG) is a grass-root organization of a school which promotes its implementation of the relevant national educational policies, facilitates its researches on pedagogical reforms and enhances the teachers'professional development. To strengthen its construction is an effective means by which the school can improve its management, raise its efficiency in teaching and learning and achieve its education objectives. However, not enough importance has been attached to the construction of LPG in many schools,thus resulting in various problems. Therefore, it is quite necessary to conduct an investigation of LPG.First, the author of this thesis provides a short overview of relevant literature, briefly reviewing major researches on LPG., its construction, and its status quo, before she explains the reasons for her selection of the research topic, expounds its theoretical significance & practical value, and points out the major research methods as well as its arrangement and main content. Then, the writer carries out a case study. By using questionnaires and conducting interviews, and SPSS analysis system the author makes an investigation of the membership, environment, management, research activities, and cultural atmosphere of the English LPG.s of Qibao High School in Shanghai. After this, with the help of an analytical method named SWOT, the author carefully analyzes their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in terms of the above-mentioned aspects. Finally, the writer puts forward a number of rewarding strategies for the construction and development of the English LPG. and mentions some aspects for further research in the future.It is hoped that this research will be of theoretical significance and practical value for the construction and development of LPGs in middle schools in China.
