The "Academic Adjustment" is the ability of students to adjust themselves for learning environment. It is the core of the adjustment characteristics of the psychological diathesis of middle school students, which can exert enormous influence on their academic quality. The research on the academic adjustment is important in that it can help us to achieve scientific analysis of students' learning process and in turn create more effective strategies of teaching. It is also important for the seventh grade students themselves since they are still in the critical period of adjustment from elementary school to junior high school and the academic adjustment is a serious problem for them. This study explores the seventh grade students' failure in academic adjustment for mathematics courses, especially the courses on (北师大实验版数学教材). The methodology of the study incorporates questionnaires and interviews. The basic conclusions are as follows: first, there is a failure in academic adjustment for the seventh grade mathematic in the whole group; there is no significant difference in the academic adjustment between male and female students; and there is a high correlation between the students' academic adjustment and their final scores. The major reasons for the failure in the academic adjustment of the seventh grade students could be: ineffective learning strategies; bad learning habit; low interests in learning; difficulty in textbooks; improper attitude in learning; the unmatch between textbooks and aid books; problems in teaching methods; and some psychological problems.Based on the research, the author gives some advices for students, teachers, parents and textbooks and aid books, in the hope that the seventh grade students could improve on their academic adjustment for mathematics courses, and especially, the middle level students can upgrade themselves to upper levels. On the other side, the study is still limited for its small sample and narrow scope of investigation, which needs future improvement. I would continue my observation and research on the academic adjustment of junior high school students to achieve better understanding in this area.
