A Study On The Vocational Education Of Government Polytechnics In Singapore

Singapore is a modern country in Asia. the vocational education played an important role in the process of modernization. The local government pays much attention on vocational education, which enjoys an important strategic status as the government keep taking measures in administrative leadership, funds investment and certificate system. There are several organizations which provide vocational education, such as Singapore National Institute of Education, Singapore National Polytechnic, and vocational education on undergraduate. At present, Singapore has five Polytechnics which are organized by the government, collectively known as the National Polytechnic, which is the equal of higher vocational education in China, and holds important status in Singapore's vocational education. National Polytechnic has cultivated a large group of the innovative talents and technical workers in industry and commercial field. The unique teaching methods and cultivating pattern in National Polytechnic afford us lessons. China's higher vocational education also has developed fast. But comparing with the overseas higher vocational education, it is in the stage of beginning and doesn't develop fully.This paper is divided into five chapters: the first chapter elaborates the reason of the research, and analyses the present research situation at home and abroad, and point out the overall frame and thought in this paper; the second chapter introduces the education system in Singapore, the history of development of the vocational education, and the history of development of National Polytechnic's; the third chapter analyzes the National Polytechnic's curriculum, teaching, management, funding and other aspects, the focus of their teaching, curriculum implementation; the fourth chapter introduces the Singapore National Polytechnic's characteristics of teaching and cultivating pattern, elaborates learning methods on the project, PBL teaching methods, teaching factory and so on; the fifth chapter proposes some suggestions on our higher vocational education.
