The heptathlon field competition for women is an all-round athletic contest consisting of seven field events which are respectively the 100-meter hurdle, the high jump, the long jump, the shot-put, the javelin throws, the 200-meter and 800-meter runs. The athletes should finish all the contests in two days. Since replacing pentathlon in 1981, the items of heptathlon have never been changed up to now. The heptathlon for women is composed of run, jump and throw. It involves many events and costs much time and physical exertion, so the athletes should be all-round and with great will. Moreover, the demands on the athletes' bodily form, mental qualities and technical skills are high. The seven competition events should be carried through in sequence before a specified date. The sports records are added up by the score of each event according to the standard grade table. The one who scores most wins. The position of the winner can only be decided after the accomplishment of the last event. Therefore, the athlete who comes first in heptathlon in the Olympic Games is usually called "Iron woman". It was during the year 1981 when International Athletic Federation added the heptathlon into the games and the year 1988 when the Seoul Olympics was held that athletes from all countries broke the world record for many times. At the Seoul Olympics in 1988, American athlete Joyner Kerssie won the gold medal by a score of 7291 and set a new world record which remains unbeaten. The heptathlon for women is an important sign of the level of the track and field competition for women of a country, so all the countries in the world attach great signification to the development of the heptathlon for women. With the extensive application of science and technology to the training and the scientific election of athletes, the achievements of the heptathlon for women will be continuously improved and set a new record.Since International Athletic Federation added this competition into the games, compared to the world level, the heptathlon for women in China was in a state of backwardness. The best performance ever attained in international competitions is that Zhu Yuqing won the eighth place in the 2nd World Track and Field Championships in 1985. Although Ma Miaolan had ever ranked third in the world by a score of 6750, Chinese female athletes rarely did well in the international competitions. From 2000 to 2007, the average score of the top ten world athletes is 6441 while that of Chinese athletes is 5575. The discrepancy is 866 which is equivalent to the score of an event. In Asia, Chinese athletes got good marks in heptathlon for women in the late 90s and early 20th C. They won the first prizes in Asian Games in 1998 and 2002(Shenshengfei). However, in the following Asian Track and Field Championships, Asian Games and East Asian Games, our athletes failed to be a champion and even weren't placed in the first three. As a great track and field competition power in Asia, we should clearly realize the difference between our present level and the world's and find out the reasons in order to improve it. Moreover, we should double the communication with the outside and learn form foreign countries and draw on their experience in training excellent athletes. Overcome our own shortcomings and learn form other's strong points in order to raise our level Though it is not practical to catch up with and surpass the world level in a short time, it is quite possible to be the champion in Asian Games and in series of games in Asia. Therefore, by adopting the methodologies of literature review, questionnaires, comparative study, statistical analysis and specialist interview, this paper does a statistic analysis of the data of the excellent athletes at home and abroad from such perspectives as physical qualities, single event disparity, total score disparity, the distributing characteristics and training of a given event, and competition system. Hence we arrive at the following conclusions and strategies:1 Conclusions:1.1 The level of our country women's heptathlon tends to be slow at present. It requires big energy for our country athletes to catch up with and surpass the world levels. 1.2 By means of the study of the status quo of the present excellent women's heptathlon of our country athlete achievement, it is easy for us to find these existing problems as follows: there is no obvious difference in height between women's heptathlon of our country and excellent athletes of the world, but the weight of our country's women athletes is lower, which makes the strength of our country's women athletes worse and the scores of striding and leaping items lower. The longer legs and shorter limbs of our country women athletes have a bad effect on the performance of the athletes' leaping and throwing etc.1.3 There is a big gap in individual achievement, leaping, short running and medium running between the women athletes in China and the excellent women's heptathlon of the world, while the difference in the performance of hurdling and throwing is smaller.1.4 The training of the excellent women's heptathlon athletes in our country is to take National Games as a big period, while the excellent athletes of the world is to take Olympic Games and the World Champion as a period. Thus there is less opportunity for the women athletes in China to attend the world-wide competitions and they lack the experience, which leads to insufficient athletic ability compared to the excellent women athletes in the world.2 Strategies:2.1 To establish the all-round games in Youth Track and Field competitions so that the majority of young people understand and participate in triathlon from youth, which makes sure the training and selection of the young athletes.2.2 To train the technology-based coaches in large number, and promote the comprehensive development of the athletes as soon as possible, making them reach high levels and become the real "all skilled."2.3 To cultivate the young athletes carefully, who have higher shape, slender limbs, asymmetrical shape, quick responses and power, good at jumping, hurdling and throwing as well as more indomitable willpower judging from China's actual conditions. To pay attention to the force quality exercises of the athletes, making the Chinese women's heptathlon move out of the trough and restore its weight in Asia. 2.4 To strengthen the core management of the people in the training process, including athletes, coaches, scientific and technological personnel, medical personnel and logistics personnel to ensure the genuine service for the athletes in the environment of training process. |
