A Study On University Core Competence

The core competence of University is the fundamental point in strategic management of University and concerned topics by University theory management. It relates to the development direction and behavior option of University. On the basis of analyzing the current situation of the core competence in the domestic and foreign countries, the strategic management theory and the core competence theory of University are elaborated in this paper. On the view of the University strategic management, the paper put forward the core strategy i.e. academic strategy. From identification of the nature of the core competence, academic level is positioned to the core competence of University. The essence and feature of the core competence based on the academic level is also discussed. Following the basic principle of structure to the Indicator System, the University evaluation index system is firstly built. The index of the core competence is sieved by use of software Spss, then the index system of the core competence is confirmed. The academic level of University constitutes academic recourse and academic fruit. The science recourse,brain recourse and material condition are constituted by the academic recourse. The achievement of teaching and researching constitute the academic fruits. An appraisal model on the core competence of university is developed based on both AHP and GRAP. Finally, the qualities of some universities are evaluated using the proposed model.
