A Study On The Sustainable Development Of The Popularization Of China's Higher Education

With the advent of the age of knowledge economy, China's higher education is facing lots of challenges and it is an important mission for educational workers to develop and improve the quality of higher education. In 2002, the gross enrollment rate of China at tertiary level reached 15% and higher education has stepped into a stage of popularization ahead of time, which, at the same time, has brought along severe problems related to teaching quality, fees, balance, equality, structure, employment and so on. How do we solve these problems? Thorough research on the popularization of China's higher education should be done and effective strategies suitable both for China's situation and the trend of higher education should be put forward. This thesis, based on the relevant theories of higher education administration, sustainable development and educational economics, attempts to make an in-depth analysis of the importance of sustainable development in higher education with a realization that sustainable development is the key to the popularization of higher education in China.This thesis analyzes various strategies to realize sustainable development of higher education from 5 aspects: establishing the scientific outlook of sustainable development, exploring the development patterns of sustainable development, building up the operational mechanism of the sustainable development, perfecting the supervision mechanism of sustainable development, establishing the guarantee system of sustainable development of higher education, with a final conclusion that sustainable development is the key to the healthy development of higher education, the growth of the whole nation, the social stability and the sustainable development of the society and the economy. We should learn form the experiences of international higher education, change our ideas on higher education development , improve the macro-control system of higher education and lead higher education onto a self-disciplined and self-independent road. It is a fundamental strategy to the sustainable development of higher education.The innovative strength of this thesis lies in the fact that it redefines the implications of sustainable development of higher education, objectively analyzes the impact of the popularization of higher education on the sustainable development of higher education, makes a strategic analysis of the existing problems in the current development of China's higher education, and puts forward coping strategies on a macroscopic plane.
