Christianity middle schools have grown up accompanied by the spread of Christianity in China and they have borne mission to serve for Christianity from the very beginning. Christianity middle schools in Kaifeng started their historical process in the wake of the arrival of Christianity. This paper studies the Christianity middle schools as well as their Christianity education in Kaifeng in modern times and explores the impact Christianity middle schools made on the modern community of Kaifeng.The paper consists of six parts:Part I introduces the spread of Christianity in China and its purposes of founding the school. Christianity was once brought to China three times before modern times, but all ended in failure. With the outbreak of the Opium War, Christianity took root in China following the war and spread rapidly under the protection of the force. In cooperation with the mission of publicity and education, Christianity middle schools were established gradually.Part II is about the spread of Christianity in Henan. The Catholic and the Protestant Christianity carried out their mission of publicity and education in Henan Province after the Opium War, constructing churches and fostering disciples. Kaifeng was the provincial city of Henan Province in modern times. In the efforts of missionaries, Christianity was taken to Kaifeng in 1902 and started to begin the mission of publicity and education.Part III relates Christianity middle schools in modern period of Kaifeng. From the emergence of the first school in 1909 to the expropriation and transformation by governments in 1953, Christianity middle schools underwent the process of start-up,prosperity,adjustment,instability,recovery and transformation. Part IV explains teaching and learning activities in Christianity middle schools in modern Kaifeng. This part explores the distinctive curricula and teaching activities in those schools and analyzes the characteristics of their curriculums.Part V elucidates the student movement in Christianity middle schools in modern Kaifeng. The contents consists of the students behaviors in Ji Bian student movement and"5·30 Movement". The students'resistance to the suppression in Ji Bian middle school students led to the outbreak of Kaifeng student movement, and won the support of the social forces to defend the legitimate rights and interests of the students. After"5·30 Movement"broke out, the different strata of Kaifeng started kinds of demonstration activities. The students of Christianity middle schools participated in the demonstrations all the through, with their own practical action to show their patriotism. Those two student movements played an important role in promoting the recovery of the right of education and the process of government registration of Christianity middle schools in Kaifeng.Part VI is about the history evaluation of Christianity middle schools in modern Kaifeng. Those schools made positive contributions in providing education opportunities and promoting cultural exchanges between the East and the West. However, they also made some negative impacts.
