Research On The Thought Of Saving The Nation Through Education In The Period Of Republic Of China

Being an important thought trend, the idea of "saving the nation through education" has a wide and profound influence in China's modern history ,which is one of the progressive views concerning nation's salvation in modern times in China and which is the production of both the nation's crises at the time and the worries about the miserable situation and the nation's future. Its main idea is that the ultimate reason for China's leanness and underdevelopment as well as being ridden roughshod over by foreign invaders is the lack of persons with ability and the under -development of education. So the advancing of society should be achieved by education firstly. It also regards the education as the guideline for one nation to promote vigorously. None but regarding education as the most important way can make China abundant and strong.This thesis which is on the base of former people's research, tries, to using the theory of historical materialism , social variance and modernization to discuss the influence of the social development in the period of Republic of China on the thought of "saving the nation through education" as well as the developmental skeleton and characteristic of this thought, in order to explore some estimable history experience for actual education reformation and the policy of "rejuvenating the nation through science and education" .In the Preface Part of this thesis, it mainly refers the current situation of academe in researching the thought about "saving the nation through education", its theoretic significance, applied value, mainly task and writing intention. In the Text Part of this thesis, it analyses the thought source , background and fundamental allegation of "saving the nation through education" in the period of Republic of China, introduces the development and evolvement of " saving the nation through education" in the period of Republic of China, and analyzes the causes of formation of different period ,and summarizes its main characteristic and Comments on the historical effect and historical limitation of the thought of "saving the nation through education" in the period of Republic of China.The idea of "saving the nation through education" belongs to reformist thought. It exaggerates the effect of education, ignores the social premise of the development of education and rejects violent revolution. The history had proven that there was no successful way for reformism in China. The end of the thought of "saving the nation through education" has become historical inevitability.
