According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, when human meet physiological needs(breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, homeostasis, excretion), they seek to satisfysuccessively Safety needs(security of body, of employment, of resources, of morality,of the family, of health, of property). After four level(Physiological needs, Safetyneeds, Love/Belonging needs and Esteem needs)are fulfilled, they will seek thehighest needs(Self-actualization needs), especially for living in the propertysociety.Unfortunately, human seems to be emotionally affected which disturbed them tomove towards a higher level during their process of seeking. The book, EmotionalPsychology, published by a Mainland emotionalist called Meng Zhao Lan, definitelypointed out that emotional instability affects students' level of reception andcomprehension; couple's married life; health; and even the development of thesociety. This defines that emotional problems can cause unbelievable results to humanbeings.Until an American psychologist, Daniel Goleman, who published a book "EQ" in1995 shared his ideas to support the significance of emotions in the life of man.He does not only remind people the importance of emotional changes, he also notifiesus that only 20% of our Intelligence Quotient is needed to breed a genius, theremaining 80% comes from our Emotional Quotient or others, and it is the key tocultivate human's Emotional Intelligence. The purpose of the study on EmotionalIntelligence helps us identify and manage our emotions. It helps to motivate ourselves, helps to recognize others' emotions and helps improve our interpersonalrelationships, etc. So, we could easily manifest our emotions through worlds andactions and in the process of learning with this manifestation, we are able to upgradeourselves and achieve a higher level of man's basic needs. As a result, man is nowable to cope up with the standard of the society. Therefore, I would like to deepen my study on the connotations of EmotionalIntelligence in the academic performance of students and find out its effects andimplications in the society, especially in the field of education, and on the learningprocess of students. With a more thorough analysis on the affects of EmotionalIntelligence in the learning process of primary students, particularly in mathematics,I hope to be able to interpret the relationship between Emotional Intelligence andmathematics and how they affect one another. Moreover educators hope to help increase the learning skills of students through the integration of Emotional Quotient withmore appropriate innovative and significant teaching methodologies and to developtheir Emotional Quotients from these teaching skills. The Macau Educational Workers have limited resources with regards to this areaor educational issues, therefore, I have to do a lot of research from foreign articles, websites or books in order to have a deeper understanding on the relationship betweenEmotional Quotients and Mathematics. Aside from that one, in order to design moreeffective teaching strategies based on the field of Emotional Education, I havereferred to many articles from mainland China and foreign countries or districtsfocusing mainly on the experiences of putting emotional intelligence education intopractice and adding my own experience for further research. I had conducted a surveyon Macau students' study habits to come up to analysis of how Macau students learnnew things, giving consideration on their behavior, line of interests familybackground and learning environment. The outcome of my research and survey are easyin this paper with an apology for its simplicity.Emotional Intelligence affects our daily lives. It affects the effectiveness ofschool age children, especially on the mathematical skills. It affects how teenagerscould run through their adolescence. It also affects adults' marriage life and theircareers. Overall, it affects our health.SO, we must be highly on mathematics genius, high personal quality, high desireto change and initiation, that is a group of high traditional intelligence, highemotional intelligence and high adversity quotient to flourish an ideal society.
