The essence of the physical concept is the reflection of physical phenomena in people's minds. In Physics, there are such a category of physical phenomena, whose common features are that students lack basic perceptions about them, while they can not be demonstrated by practical experiments. Therefore we call them abstract physical phenomena. Corresponding teaching methods should be used to show the essence of those abstract physical phenomena so as to improve the comprehension of students. Thus, how to apply the excellent simulation software MATLAB to teach abstract concept is studied and discussed in this thesis.This paper is divided into five sections. A detailed analysis of the methods for teaching abstract physical phenomena in middle school is presented in the first part. Applications and functions of the MATLAB software is introduced in the second part, especially including detailed information on its plotting functions. The complete producing processes of several MATALB examples for demonstrating abstract physical problems are cited in the fourth part. The practical experiences achieved from applying these methods are summed up in the fifth part.This paper seeks to explore the applications of MATLAB in the physics teaching and experiment. The purpose is to make more teachers understand MATLAB and, thus make them try to use this software to assist high school physics experiment teaching experiment, and to improve the efficiency and quality of teaching.
