Through the detailed depiction of key steps in pearl culture, such as injection, nursing pearl-oyster and taking out pearl, at Huangshao Village of Yinpan Township in Beihai, the article investigates the corporation and conflict among employer, indigene and foreigner; through the description of political storm in village triggered in the process of a national requisition of land, it reveals the reconstruction of local social relationship shaped by the hidden political struggle among the village cadres and young men and old men of the same clan. Simultaneously, it pays close attention to development and change of relation of ethnic group in local customs and culture activities under the swift change of economic and political activities. In a word, via above depiction and discussion, the article aims to show that a small village, which takes pearl culture as its primary manner for making a living, experienced various changes in its manner of production, social structure, religion and customs under intense vicissitude of Chinese society.
