The foreign language teaching evaluation is the process of gathering information for making decisions on foreign language teaching plan, classroom teaching as well as students'knowledge, abilities and qualities, etc. It is an integral part of the whole foreign language teaching. According to different objects, it can be divided into evaluation of students, evaluation of teachers and evaluation of school administration. In this dissertation we will mainly make a discussion on evaluation of students. One of the reasons is that the main purpose of foreign language teaching is to cultivate students'abilities and qualities. The other is that it plays an important role in improving both teachers'instruction and students'learning.This dissertation consists of five chapters altogether and they are organized as follows:Chapter One is an introduction to foreign language teaching evaluation. At the same time, the aim and the contents of the thesis are given in the chapter.Chapter Two introduces development of evaluation of students including a literature review and the recent development. Besides this, an investigation on current situation of foreign language teaching evaluation in China is carried out.Chapter Three is the most important part of the dissertation. An evaluation model that focuses on promoting students'development in FLT is designed. In this chapter there are three parts: active participants, comprehensive objectives and diversified ways of evaluation of students.Chapter Four provides some suggestions on application of the model. The first is to change the concepts of evaluation. The second is to interpret the results scientifically. The third is to appropriately feedback the information to students.Chapter Five serves as a conclusion of the whole dissertation.
