In recent years, with the development of economy and society, to getmore information quickly is becoming more and more important. For amodern person, one of the best ways to get information is reading. Ifone's ability of reading is improved, then he has a firm foundation for hisfurther study. If he has the ability to learn by himself, he can keep pacewith the development of society. So to promote the students' readingcomprehension ability is one of the most important goals of Englishteaching.Now a mighty curriculum reform in compulsory education is beingcarried out in China. It focuses on improving the reading skill of thestudents. The New English Curriculum Standard highly advocates the useof Task-based language Teaching (TBLT), in which teachers involve thestudents' active participation in the task performance so as to help them tolearn English by doing things such as thinking, discussing, cooperating,communicating and etc. TBLT emphasizes on the ability to communicatethrough interaction in the target language and the introduction ofauthentic texts into the learning situation. Provision of opportunities forlearners focuses not only on language, but also on the learning processitself. Therefore TBLT is one of the best ways to improve the students'reading comprehension ability.In order to use the TBLT more effectively in English teaching,teachers need to design English teaching plans properly. A good Englishteaching plan based on task can make the students more active in Englishreading, In view of the present situation of English reading teaching and the New English Curriculum Standard, the writer shows in this thesis thatTBLT can be adopted in senior English reading classes. After theintroduction of a series of related theories of TBLT and the research on itboth at home and abroad, this thesis focuses on how to design plans forsenior English reading, using the theory of TBLT. An effective task-basedteaching model for senior English reading has been given on the basis ofanalyzing some teaching cases, studying the process of English readingteaching, and comparing between new and traditional ways of teaching.The thesis concludes that TBLT can be adopted in senior English reading;classes to make the students more active in reading so that their readingcomprehension ability can be improved rapidly. And the result oftask-based reading teaching proves that TBLT is one of the best ways toimprove senior students' English reading comprehension ability.
