An Influencing Study Of Family Environment On Adolescent-Parent Conflict And It Resolution Strategies

Parent-Adolescent Conflict refers to the public resistance or opposition between adolescents and parents, which are the display of argument, quarrel, even the body conflict and so on. The sample of the research is about 984 adolescents from grade one in middle school to the senior grade in university. We arrive at the following conclusions with the questionnaire-investigation method of FES—CV, Parent-Adolescent Conflict Questionnaire, Parent-Adolescent Conflict Resolution Questionnaire.1. The family economy status and the parents, profession have an effect on the Parent-Adolescent Conflict .The adolescent family of medium level of income has less parent-adolescent conflict, while the rich and poor families have more conflicts. The education level of mother has no relation to the parent-adolescent conflict. Father of primary level of education is easier to have conflicts with their children. Father who is teacher and cadre has fewer conflicts with their children, while father who is worker, farmer, or other else has more. Besides, mother who is cadre, teacher, worker, and farmer also has fewer conflicts.2. There are two summits about parent-adolescent conflict, one is the grade three in middle school, and the other is sophomore in university. The parent-adolescent conflict is in the lower state and maintains consistently among the grade one in middle school, grade one and grade two in high school, the junior and senior grade in university. The frequency of conflicts is up quickly from grade one to grade three in middle school, and up slowly from grade two in high school to sophomore, while it is down quickly from grade three in middle school to grade two in high school, and from sophomore to junior grade in university.3. The family environment has an effect on parent-adolescent conflict and Conflict Resolution Strategies. The Cohesion,Conflict, and Achievement Orientation factor of family environment can predict the conflicts between adolescents and their fathers. And the cohesion, Conflict, Achievement Orientation, Active-Recreational Orientation and Control can predict the conflicts between adolescents and their mothers. There was significant correlation between all factors of family environment and all factors of Conflict Resolution Strategy. Cohesion, Organization, Conflict and Achievement Orientiation can predict Conflict Resolution Strategies between the adolescent and their parents.4. There is a significant correlation between Parent—Adolescent conflict and Conflict Resolution Strategies. The Competition strategy is negatively related to all aspects of parent-adolescent conflict; the Cooperation strategy is negatively related to father conflict and other strategies (Compromise, Avoidance&Accommodation) are more or less negatively related to different aspects of Parent-Adolescent Conflict.
