With two decades of socialistic reforms and transformations from the old economical system to a new one, people's pattern of thoughts and values witnessed great changes. Middle school students' ideological and moral education is also faced with new challenges and tasks. As a result, in the face of the rapidly changing social reality, it is of great importance to do researches about the features of middle school students' ideas, grasp the main contents of their ideological and moral education and find more diverse and flexible ways and methods about it. On the basis of relevant investigations in Hubei Shuiguohu High School and Jiangang High School in Wuhan, this paper analyzed and summed up the ideological features of middle school students that is, modern consciousness that is suitable for the opening policy is strengthened; values are pragmatized, utilized and pluralised; there are obvious disharmony and unbalance of the ideological development. Through the analysis of current features of middle school students' ideas, this paper proposed seven coping strategies for the present situation of middle school students' ideological and moral education, namely, changing ideas; setting up suitable moral values for quality education; holding educational activities with series of topics and realizing the layering of moral targets; choosing scientific methods of teaching moral education; optimizing the team of cadres on the premise of quality improvement; establishing the moral network of family, school and society. In a word, this paper holds that in the 21st century, the students' morality should be cultivated in the natural activities; students are expected to experience and understand the morality in independent activities so that they can form a self-disciplined habit of "Education with no Teaching" in the process of the cultivation of temperament and will; and the educational pattern of all members' participation should also be constructed.
