Because of the advantages of location and support from Shanghai municipal government and of their own creative practice, colleges in Shanghai have become one of the most important human resources bases for physical education in China. There is a lot of mean in both theory and practice to take an in-depth investigation on physical human resource in colleges in Shanghai.Start with the status of physical education in Shanghai colleges, this article use kinds of methods, such as documentation method, questionnaire survey, and expert interview to make an in-depth investigation in several aspects, say, the structure of physical fitness, age, education and degree, sex and professional and technical positions. Also, with the guidance of human resource management theory, this article proposes several ways in election, education and other aspects in optimizing physical education human resource. Main conclusions are as follows.1. The overall physical quality of physical education human resources in Shanghai colleges is good. Most of these people are in good conditions, their emotions are stable, and their state of mind is good. However, they have pressures from both work and daily life.2. Basically, the age structure of professional physical educators in Shanghai colleges is rational. But the portion of aged, upper-middles, and youth among management and working staff is quite unreasonable, say, the age structure of these people is aging obviously.3. The overall level of education qualification among professional physical personnel in Shanghai colleges is low. The most commonly education qualification is bachelor's degree. Most people who own undergraduate education qualification are older than forty. And there are people who only get tertiary education qualification. Most people in management working level only have tertiary education qualification and more than half people in people with tertiary education qualification is older than fifty.4. The sex difference in physical education human resources in Shanghai colleges is mainly existed in professional personnel. There are much more male professionals among these people. The number of female doctors is nearly the same as of male doctors. The differences of the portion of male and of female are significant in undergraduate and graduate education level. Among professional personnel, the higher of their professional positions, the higher portion of male professionals, which means the lower portion of female professional.5. The professional and technical position structure of professional physical education personnel is not reasonable. The portion of people- who own advanced qualification is relatively low. The average age of people own advanced qualification is somewhat higher than ideal age and their age structure is aging.6. Differences in number of people who have postgraduate or graduate education qualifications and in number of people who have advanced positions are great among "985 Project" colleges, colleges attached to the education ministry and colleges attached to Shanghai municipal government. Colleges with a higher level and own stronger comprehensive strength have a higher portion of the number of people who have postgraduate or graduate education qualifications and the number of people who have advanced positions.By the investigation of status of physical education human resources in Shanghai colleges, this article proposes optimization ways as follows:1. Strengthen the overall planning, make a clear goal to develop physical education human resource.2.Enhance recruitment purposes, optimize physical education human resources structure.3.Intensify targeted training, upgrade the overall quality of physical education human resources.
