Comparison Of Four Editions Of Senior Geography Textbooks Under New Course Standard

As national basis education reform is being carried out, and the Geography Course Standards (shortened as GCS below) is issued and implemented, "multiple course books based on one standard" have come into being. The four geography books by People Education Press, Hunan Education Press, Shandong Education Press and China's Map Press have been passed, and have put into trial use. I have read GCS and the theory on how to arrange textbooks carefully, and made a comparison on the four geography textbooks. Considering time and my limited energy, I have just chosen four aspects, books' structure, graph design, case compiling, and students' activities, as my research contents. After my analysis of the four aspects above and the research of the compiling features of the four textbooks, I point out the shortcomings and then give suggestions to help improve another better edition, and also offer a reference to choice and use.After research I have found that the four different editions show the new ideas of the GCS in some ways, modules and chapters have been adopted in the textbooks' structure, there are three modules and they are independent relatively, the sequence of contents and the ways of presentation have been dealt with in the textbooks, but the system of geography knowledge is over-emphasized, the contents sequence and the way of presentation don't agree with the students' psychological development; the number of the graphs have increased, and the types of the graphs are various, the arrangement of words and graphs is proper; much attention is fixed on the model of the cases' compiling, the choice of cases is typical, the arrangement of them is proper; there are many different kinds of students' activities, the design of the activities is original, much attention has been paid on the development of students' research ability.After comparison, I have found that the four different editions have their own features. As for the structures, the chapters of People Education Press Edition are arranged according to geography elements and industrial branches, the amount of chapters is relatively more than the others, the other three editions are arranged according to the Black Elements in the GCS contents, the titles and sequence of chapters are in accordance with GCS, leading to the capacity of contents in every chapter much varied. Question Research and Unit Activity are offered at the end of every chapter in People Education Press Edition and Shandong Education Press Edition; bilingual study column is provided in Hunan Education Press Edition; the structure of body plus research is adopted in China Map Press Edition, the structure is designed characteristically.
