| There is a common fact that mathematics teaching is, year by year, mainly based upon teachers' experiences and has the tendency of quantification, afflicting both teachers and students. How to alleviate the burden of teachers and students in the primary and junior middle schools becomes the responsibility of those teachers who are devoted to change of teaching reality. This paper is a report of a teaching experiment on word problems on quadratic equations with one unknown based on the theory of schemas and learning through examples. It is revealed that the students can construct explicit, clear schemas of word problems on quadratic equations with one unknown after examples learning and reflections; their ability to solve word problems on quadratic equations are enhanced and that, through constructing schemas by example learning and reflections, the students can acquire a new learning strategy and enhance their ability of learning and problem solving. |
