The Theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI for short) was put forward by an American psychologist, Howard Gardner, in 1983. It greatly influences the education of many countries in the world. The researches of applying the theory to the teaching practice mushroom all over the world. Based on the analysis of the history and the status concerning MI, the thesis systematically illustrates the application of MI to English teaching in primary schools the design of several teaching plans. The paper aims at putting forward a framework of applying MI to English teaching in primary schools, promoting the teachers' understanding about the theory and providing guidance for their practices.The thesis is divided into four parts. Chapter one expatriates the significance, methods, content and the structure of the thesis. Chapter two includes two parts. The first part mainly introduces the theory of MI and reviews the development of the researches concerning the theory. The second part presents the analysis of psychological characteristics of children in primary schools. Chapter three is the most important part of the thesis. In this part, the paper makes a survey of applying MI to English teaching in primary schools. Based on that, the paper offers different means of applying MI to teaching English listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar in primary schools. And it presents seven teaching plans to show how to apply the theory to English teaching in primary schools. Chapter four gives such suggestions for the application of MI to English teaching in primary schools as choosing MI instruments, the role transformation and professional development of the teacher and the support from the school.
