For the healthy development of the public athletics and the urban residents' earliest cultivation of a scientific athletic lifestyle, this thesis, according to the subject's participation, divides the athletic acts into four different sporting lifestyles and two casual sporting acts through the retrieval method, the logic method, the interview method, the mathematic statistical method and the comparative analytic method. They are the standardized sporting lifestyle, the monomial sporting lifestyle, the timing sporting lifestyle and the extensive sporting lifestyle as well as the monomial casual sporting act and the extensive sporting act. With the data gained, the thesis then gives a thorough study on the prevailing sporting lifestyle of the urban residents 26-55 in age from such three aspects as the subject's construction, objective conditions and the behavior style, disclosing the internal and external inductive factors, analyzing the internal and external difficulties encountered in public athletics and explaining the reasons why the urban residents 26-55 in age quit their sporting activities. Finally it works out the preconditions and restraints for the cultivation of an athletic lifestyle, the material problems to be solved in the athletic work and the effective way for the urban residents to cultivate their sporting lifestyles.
