This paper is based on the modern cognitive psychology. With the guidance of problem-solving theory, the author designs self-monitoring materials for chemistry learning which is suitable for group testing, and problems in chemical experiments which is suitable for case studies, as well as"the self-questioning sheet"concerning certain problems in chemical experiments, the evaluation chart for problem solving in chemical experiments and the examining chart for the process of the experimental problem-solving. It studies the mental mechanism of experimental problem-solving among the students in senior high school with the methods of questionnaire measurement, verbal report and activity operation. The research result of group testing shows: the average self-monitoring level of the senior high school students in chemistry learning is not very high. The self-monitoring level of students in Grade Three is not higher than that of students in Grade Two, or even Grade One. There is a noticeable direct ratio relation and a favorable coherence between the self-monitoring level and the chemistry achievement of the students, which means that high self-monitoring level tends to help students do better in chemistry. There is also a sexual difference as to the self-monitoring level, that is, the average self-monitoring level of the boy students in senior high school is not as...
