| The Context theory has been the focus of research in linguistic field in recent years, because it plays an important role in improving vocabulary teaching. In 1923, Molinowski, a polish humanist, first mentioned the concept" context of situation ". In his opinion, words are closely related to situations and language environment is essential to the understanding of a languages.Targeted at the problems in the present senior high school vocabulary teaching, this paper probes into the vocabulary teaching methods which adopt the context theory so as to raise the efficiency of English teaching. In the field of vocabulary teaching, teaching and testing vocabulary in contexts has become a tendency. Many national examinations, such as national entrance examination to universities and colleges, CET, focus on testing students' abilities to guess the meanings of new words as well as their abilities to use vocabulary properly in contexts.I find in my research that the major problems with vocabulary learning in English are as follows: first, students can't memorize some words correctly; second, they cannot use English words freely and properly to express themselves. In their writings or speeches, there often appear Chinglish sentences, which don't fit with English grammar or the way English-speaking people use English.The solutions to such problems are to change the old ideas of English vocabulary teaching and learning, use the context theory in English teaching, improve of the vocabulary exercise compiling of textbooks and reform the item patterns of examinations in our country.I hope this paper will be of some value to the upcoming researchers and that it can be a great help to improving English vocabulary teaching as well as textbook compiling. |
