Following the development of the computer technology, personal computer has stepped into the era of multimedia. That means we can consult text, pictures, photographs and the sound at the same time by using the computer. This is a great progress in two aspects: to both personal computer and teaching. The widely use of the multimedia into the teaching field has pushed the educational theory, the educational practicing and educational technology forward. And, the CAL (computer assisted learning), CAI (computer assisted instruction) are concerned not only by the foreign language teaching field but also the focus of the language study field. This is due to the advantages of computer multimedia technology to which the traditional classroom teaching is incomparable.Listening comprehension, which is one of the learners' basic skills in language acquisition, has a strong affect on the master of the other skills. Whether a learner has a good command of the listening comprehension skills or not directly influenced this master of the skills such as speaking, reading and writing, and it is the presupposition of the speaking, reading, and writing..While teaching in the middle schools, the author of this study often hears the learners complain about the difficulties in listening comprehension in their English class and it has influenced the English teaching effects because the listening comprehension is affected by the following factors: learner's factor, material factor, environment factor and input factor.Through the analysis of the CAI theories, the features of the listening comprehension and the factors that affect the listening comprehension, and based on the advantages of the multimedia technology on audio-visual, photographs and advanced connecting functions, the aim of the study is trying to find whether multimedia can reduce the difficulty of the listening comprehension through its assisted language advantages and reduce the learners' listening anxiety which is caused by forgetting, and whether learners' listening comprehension ability could be improved by the its language information input advantages. The first chapter of this study overviewed multimedia in English teaching, summarizes the features of multimedia classroom teaching and its advantages in English teaching. By analyzing essential features of the listening process, the position of listening in language acquisition, the current situation of listening teaching in English teaching, and the factors that affect listening comprehension, at the end of this chapter, the writer of this study raises the purpose of this study. Chapter Two reviews multimedia assisted language teaching, listening comprehension study and language anxiety study in China as well as abroad. By overviewing the research result and research situation at present, the writer of this study pointed out the insufficiency of previous study: the previous study put their focus on the theory research and they often lack practice or application, and CAI application is often ignored in high school education. The overview of the previous study also provided the necessity to conduct this study. Chapter Three explained the constructive language learning theory, studies the cognitive psychology and language input processes, and those all show that visual-audio information input could improve the learners' memory. Krashen's Input hypothesis and Affective Filter hypothesis show the factors that affected the information input and under what condition the information input could be improved. This essay holds them as its theory basic. Chapter Four is the design part and research procedures of this study which includes the design of the test paper and questionnaire, the study instruments, the sample of the subject, the making of the courseware and the considering factors which are used to reduce the learners' listening anxiety, the procedures of the study and the control of the unrelated varieties. This chapter gave an extensive explanation to these items. Chapter Five analyzed the anxious level correlation, mean, frequency, and standard deviation. All the data is collected from the pre-test, mid-test, post-test of the two groups. By analyzing these data, the author of this study shows that the multimedia classroom has a positive effect on improving the learners' listening comprehension and reducing their listening anxiety.Based on the above findings and analysis of the experimental data, the writer concludes that the design process bridges the theories and the applications of the theories, in which the result is totally dependent on the accurate control of the process. CAI course is not the electronic version of the teachers' teaching plan. And it can not be simply chosen from the products.on the market. It should be the result of a customized design process taking specific needs and situations into account. And due to its proven advantages on listening teaching, the research provides some advice and consideration to our teaching reform.
