English is an important carrier of the world advance, economical development and cultural exchange. Middle school English teachers have paid close attention to helping students improve their learning efficiency. However, students still have a lot of problems in enlarging their vocabulary which forms an important basis of English learning. With the proclaiming of the newly English curriculum standard, there is an increasing demand of students' enlarging their vocabulary and how to help students study the vocabulary effectively becomes an urgent task. In the past few decades, learning strategy has become one of the hottest topics in the field of language learning and teaching. Different researches have proved that metacognitive strategy is important to foreign language learning and teaching and will certainly be helpful in vocabulary teaching and learning. This paper conducts a tentative empirical research focusing on metacognitive strategy training in vocabulary teaching in junior middle schools. Based on the analysis of data obtained from questionnaire, interview and test, the result indicates that metacognitive strategy training will help increase students' awareness of using metacognitive strategy and will facilitate their vocabulary learning so as to improve their learning efficiency.
