In order to further educational reform and construct a new basic education syllabus system that can meet the requirements of quality-oriented education, it is necessary to cultivate students' active attitude towards study and advocate the principle of student's active participation, willingness to inquire and readiness to practice. Accordingly, student's ability to collect and process information, to obtain new knowledge, to analyze and solve problems, and to communicate and cooperate can be considerably improved. Obviously, "participation" has become a guideline for the reform of classroom teaching. Participative instruction is considered as a new teaching concept promoted in the new syllabus for basic education and also as an advanced teaching mode, and thus it is usually adopted as an effective form in the implementation of the new basic education syllabus. Research into participative instruction is required not only by student development but also by teacher development in the implementation of the new syllabus. In view of the objective of the new basic education syllabus and the current situation of mathematics teaching for primary-school education college students in a five-year teacher training program, this thesis expounds and proves the possibility and necessity of applying participative instruction to mathematics teaching for primary-school education college students in a five-year teacher training program. Guided by the related teaching theories and principles, this paper presents a mathematics classroom teaching pattern and teaching strategy of participative instruction and through experiment verifies the remarkable effect of participative instruction in terms of increasing student's interest in mathematics learning, of bettering student's academic performance in mathematics learning, and of improving student's abilities to practice, operate manually, select information, cooperate and teach, as well as of changing teacher's teaching method and student's learning mode. The popularization of the teaching method of participative instruction undoubtedly will infuse new life into the classroom teaching of mathematics, as it abides by the modern "student-development-oriented" educational idea.
