Research on National Accreditation for Colleges of Education in USAAccreditation system of teacher education institution is an important ensuring mechanism for teachers professionalization and it is an essential choice for open -teacher-education system. In USA, most of universities have participated in teacher education so that the teachers colleges in the universities have been main teacher education institutions. In order to normalize teacher education administration and ensuring teachers quality, the government take accreditation as an useful and effective way. The national accreditation for teachers college refers to an assessment system that, with the college' application ,the National Council for Accreditation for Teacher Education (NCATE)makes regular evaluation of the teacher colleges according to the accreditation standards formulated by NCATE, which abbreviates NCATE accreditation. It has been exerting great influence on the development on teacher education in USA. And the effects focus on ."convenient for students mobility among schools and the teachers' transference to other states; leading to the regular internal assessment in teacher colleges and promoting the professional level of pre-service education; encouraging competition among teacher colleges and academic mobility; and helping establish a quality assurance system for teacher education.Firstly, the research makes analysis of the national accreditation for teacher colleges system; retrospects the development of NCATE; introduces the member organizations of NCATE; and expounds the internal and external management, functions and tasks of NCATE, the scope of NCATE accreditation and as well as the relationship between NCATE accreditation and the state accreditation .Secondly it analyzes the accreditation standards formulated by NCATE, and presents the specific contents and characteristics of 6 unit standards in Standards 2000.Thirdly,it discusses the basic procedure of NCATE accreditation.
