As the primary means of language input, listening plays a key role in the perception and learning of language. Listening is regarded as an important means as well as the main purpose of language learning. Listening is viewed as the foundation of the other language skills. Listening comprehension is anything but a passive activity. It is a complex and an active process in which the listener must discriminate between sounds, understand vocabulary and grammatical structures, interpret stress and intonation, retain what was gathered in all of the above, and interpret it within the immediate as well as the larger sociocultural context of the uterance. Coordinating all of this involves a great deal of mental activity on the part of the listener. And listening comprehension is now generally recognized to play a key role in facilitating language learning, so it deserves analysis and support.Among all the learning strategies, metacognitive strategy is a higher-order executive skill which involves an ability of consciously using metacognitive knowledge to plan, monitor and evaluate the learning process.
