School physical education thought is people's realization or idea about school physical education which is formed directly or indirectly though physical practice in certain society and era. This thought is mainly about the nature, orientation and goal of school physical education and how to put the thought in practice. This paper, with literature-method, diachronic-method, comparative-method and investigation-method, studied the thought on school physical education in china from latter-day times, described the development and evolvement of this thought, deeply analyzed its features in different historical phase, analyzed the background of the thought, and the existent problems, then evaluated its historical significance. Based on the above, this paper discussed and summed up the regular experience and lesson in the development of the thought, looked forward to China-specific school physical educational thought in the future, in the hope of inspiring the reformation of school physical education for the future.The thought on school physical education in latter-day china has experienced six major phase: from the end of Qing Dynasty to 1919 is the phase of army-country-civilian physical education thought ; from 1919 to1937,the naturalist thought; from 1937 to 1949, the coexistence of naturalist and nationalist thought; from 1949 to 1966, Russian Socialist thought; from 1966 to 1976, Labor and military's replacing physical education; from 1977 to this day, the new phase of school physical education thought. Dividing these six-phase make the contour of the development and evolvement of Chinese school physical educational thought clear.The development and evolvement of Chinese school physical educational thought is influenced by the thought abroad, influence and dominated by the national politics, economical, educational, physical education and other factor. This thought serves the realization of some definite social, political, economical, educational and physical educational goals. Based on the fundamental goal of increasing students' health, strengthen students' constitution, the understanding of the function and the goal of school physical education are deepened continually; the conversion from single viewpoint of biologically physical education to three-climensional viewpoint of biologically, psychologically and socially physical education is realized; the dominant place of humanism viewpoint of physical education is established.The practice in school physical education show's that Chinese school physical education thought is not perfect, which is manifested with the fact that the understanding of the concept of school physical education is much vague; the study on school physical education thought lies in manipulating level; the understanding of the function and the goal of school physical education should be improved further; the relationship among studying, inheriting and creating is not appropriate; the study on theory doesn't combined properly with the development of practice. In the future, the thought on school physical education in China will develop with "Health, The First" as dominant thought, "Lifetime Physical Education" as ultimate goal, "Human-center" as value orientation, paying attention to human development in an all-round way, paying attention to nurturing student's individuality and good living habits, actively absorbing the advanced educational thought and the physical educational thought abroad, starting from the domestic traditional thought, attaching importance to the nationality of school physical education, emphasizing the combination of school physical education, social sports with family physical education further, in order to link up school physical education, social sports and lifelong physical education gradually.
