Based on theoretical and practical considerations, this thesis aims to illustrate the improvement of interactive activities on students' interest in English learning. The present writer proposes some suggestions on primary pupils' interest activation and lists some important guidelines on the organization of interactive classroom activities. In the mean time, it aims at drawing people's attention to the significance of interest activation in primary English classrooms, help to build a better perspective for future primary English teaching.As the importance of English teaching is gradually valued by the whole society in fecent years, English language, as a compulsory course, discovering an effective teaching method has become the focus for English teaching. This thesis is conceived and designed under the basic of teaching practice.The paper consists of five parts.Chapter One is the introduction the present situation of English learning for primary school and the purpose and significance of the studyChapter Two offers the theoretical basis of interactive English teaching. It presents the definition of interaction. Interaction means to act mutually and perform reciprocally. Then from language acquisition point of view to analysis why and how to adopt interactive teaching approaches. Further concern is the relationship of interaction and communication, interest and motivation. Once students' interest and motivation are aroused in English learning,It sets out theoretical that help from the thesis. Concerning the limitation of primary pupil's psychological development, the writer proposes the application of interactive activities in primary English teaching. Principles and features of interactive classroom are given, together with a list of interactive activities.Chapter Three deals with the details of the experiment. The objectives and questions are proposed, followed by subjects, materials, instructional design, procedures and data collection of the experiment.The experiment was carried out at the Shijiazhuang Primary School Attached toNo.81 Middle School for one year (Sep, 2004—July, 2005). Two classes were chosen. One was the experimental class taught by using interactive approaches. The other was control class taught by using traditional way. 96 pupils from Grade Four were included. According to the results of the test, and analyzing the result of information obtained from the standard paper in Changan Shijiazhuang. The results proved that the scores of the experimental class are much higher than that of the control class. The conclusion is interactive activities play an important role in improving the interest of studying.Chapter Four reports the result of the study, including the instruments, data collection and data analysis. The teacher questions on pupils' attitudes and interests, together with the observation diary and the statistics of the record of students frequency of hand-raising is presented. Most pupils expect teachers use interactive teaching approach in class. The findings of the study suggest that interactive activities do play a key role in stimulating primary pupils.From the result of questionnaire, students show great interest in these activities . Most of them can enjoy the activities their teachers organize. Teachers applied those activities in all the stages of the language teaching. Analyzed from the class observation, the activities actually aroused these students' interest.Chapter Five sums up the limitations of the study and recommendations for future research. Language teachers shoulder have rich knowledge of what to teach and know pupils. Interactive language teaching is suitable to pupils. It can performed well to improve pupils communicative competence, it greatly stimulate pupils interest and pupils are willing to learn English.In one word, interactive activities, representing primary pupils' specific affective and cognitive features, essentially integrate affective and cognitive domains and substantially progress in the improvement of students' interest.
