Language-based traditional teaching approach has dominated in English teaching for many years, which overlooks one important aspect of language teaching that English is a tool for communication or the teaching of the use of the language. Influenced by this approach, the purpose of learning English is to get high marks in examinations instead of for communication. It far goes against the spirits of the New National Curriculum Standards and qualified education. Recently people's demand for qualified education calls for a change in teaching approach. As a new teaching principle and teaching procedure Task-based Approach is gradually recognized and accepted by most English instructors. English Curriculum Standard recommends implementing Task-based Approach in English teaching so as to do things with words and foster students'comprehensive competence of using the language. In this thesis the writer aims at talking about Task-based Approach and application in Senior School.A language teaching mode is the embodiment of a certain theory. It serves as a bridge linking theory and practice. Starting with a questionnaire about English learning and English teaching, the thesis introduces the documents of Task-based Approach and makes a half-year study on it through T-test to demonstrate the effectiveness of Task-based Approach.The thesis consists of six parts:Part one puts forward a way to improve students'English level—the application of task-based teaching approach in class. A questionnaire about students'studies and students'assessment to teaching procedures introduces the problem.Part two explores the study state of Task-based Approach both at home and abroad, which indicates this approach has gained recognition throughout the world.Part three describes the theoretical foundation of Task-based Approach in detail in order to make readers better understand this new principle.Part four compares Task-based and Traditional Approaches to make sure readers deepen the implication of Task-based Approach and make full use of it in practice.Part five explains the writer's study on Task-based Approach illustrating the effectiveness of Task-based Approach in class.Part six summarizes the whole thesis and warns Task-based Approach can't be used randomly and mechanically and teachers should develop text research and find out a successful way to implement Task-based Approach based on its own teaching background. At the same time, there are some problems to be further explored.
